Hello! My name is Beth and I’m a sales coordinator here at Culinary Concepts and I got engaged to my amazing fiancée, Jeramiah, in August . I coordinate weddings at work and now I get to plan my own wedding! I thought it would be fun to blog about my wedding planning experiences thus far and in the coming months and I invite you to join me on my journey. I definitely know that wedding planning can be an overwhelming and sometimes stressful task but I also know it can be a ton of fun too. Follow me while I learn what it’s like to plan my own wedding and maybe you can learn some new and fun things along the way.
First step: ENJOY YOUR NEWLY ENGAGED RELATIONSHIP STATUS! Jeramiah and I got engaged under a waterfall amongst the Redwoods on a camping trip to Big Sur, CA in August (pretty dreamy, right?!) Because we were camping for the weekend, we did not have cell phone service and so as much as I wanted to scream, I’M ENGAGED! from the treetops and to call each and every family member and friend I have…we literally couldn’t! So for the first 48 hours of being engaged, we were the only two people to know it which was an amazing experience. We cheered with champagne and I gazed down at my sparkly ring a lot, but I loved that it took a few days for the word to get out.
A lot of people dream about their weddings from the time they are old enough to start playing pretend wedding so it’s hard not to jump right into it. But I would suggest that before you begin calling caterers or buying your dress – you really should think what you and your fiancée want as far as your future wedding goes. It’s a lot easier to go to vendors with an idea of what you are looking for in your big day rather than, for example, to pick out your colors before you choose your “theme”. What if the colors you originally pick, don’t match your venue feel? Or the sit down dinner you first thought about, doesn’t end up going with the casual reception location that you later decide on?
So to begin, I would suggest that you start looking at wedding planning blogs (a few of my favorites are Green Wedding Shoes, 100 Layer Cake, Ruffled, Wedding Chicks and Style Me Pretty) to get a feel for what you love. What ideas and wedding elements define you as a couple? Do you love a vintage theme, a modern look, or a rustic chic farm wedding? Do you want food stations, a plated dinner, or a buffet? Take the first couple weeks as an engaged couple and DREAM BIG. Once you start to design your day in your head, then you can scale back from there and begin planning a wedding that is unique to you and your new fiancée.
I knew, right away, that we wanted to get married here in California. We are both from the Midwest originally, so we wanted a destination wedding for our friends and family. It was important to us that we make our wedding into a fun vacation for our guests. So we knew that if we were going to be getting hitched in California, we wanted to be near the ocean or on a beach. This meant that we needed some warm California weather and August of 2014 seemed to be a perfect, sunny fit. From those ideas, we began our search for a suitable venue, with available Saturday dates in August…
