ohh STOP! Shhhh! you're embarassing us! (alright, keep talking!...)

07/29/09     Hi Culinary Team,

Just a quick note to let you know that our catering was a success!  My guests were wowed with the hot and cold hors d’ouevres.  Everything arrived in excellent form and your staff was very professional in arriving and setting up the food.

We will definitely use your services again.  In late Sept., I am organizing an event, so I will be contacting you and will be looking forward to working  with you regards to the menu planning.

These are the foods that wowed the crowd yesterday:

  • Beef Stroganoff- delicious.
  • The chocolate mousse cake (I like the champagne grapes decorating the plate!)
  • The chicken was delicious and was not overcooked and the veggies were cooked just right.
  • Pear & Stilton tarts—our closet foodie scientists were curious about the garnish on the tarts (they looked like green and purple sprouts that looked like confetti on the plate!  What are they? [Ed. Note:  they were micro greens, read more here about where we purchase them!], the pesto mushrooms,  seared ahi tuna
  • overall the Social Hour went very well because the white linen set up for the table and the nice platters looked very appealing and the quality of the food was fantastic!
Many thanks again for your help;  please also extend my thanks to your chef, and to your staff.

Best,       Liza,  Regulus Therapeutics, Inc.

Millions of peaches, peaches for me!

Don't delay--peaches are SUPER ripe right NOW and ready to eat.  Whether it be from your garden, the local grocery store or the farmers' market, the time is now, we really recommend them!  Have a napkin on hand, these guys are juicy!

Another high-profile client...we are on a roll!

Culinary Concepts was proud to cater a seated dinner for 500 guests aboard the USS Midway for the Asian Heritage Awards.  The Gala honored Asian American and Pacific Islander community leaders.  The Sixth Annual Asian Heritage Awards, was organized by the San Diego-based Asia Media Inc., and the formal affair was attended by top-notch Asian American leaders from all over Southern California.

The Awards Dinner showcased a variety of cultural performances, and awarded individuals in 14 categories, chosen from 115 nominees with over 60,000 votes.  In the military category (a unique focus due to the USS Midway location), a special recognition was given to U.S. Army Major General Antonio Taguba, who testified in 2004 before U.S. Congress on prisoner abuses in IraqPhoto credits:  www.stephenakersphoto.com

Keep the Trekkies coming to San Diego!!

IMPORTANT NEWS FOR EVENT PLANNERS!  The San Diego Comic-Con International might not be safe in San Diego forever!  The HUGE convention returns to the San Diego Convention Center every summer, brings a large amount of business to the city, and generates millions of dollars in revenue each year.   In the last three years, the event has overflowed out of the Convention Center, spilling into other venues downtown, such as Petco Park, Horton Plaza, and the Midway.  Tickets (for over 126,000 attendees at the last 2 events) have sold out two months in advance.

Convention centers in Los Angeles and Las Vegas have been courting Comic-Con organizers, trying to woo them away from SD with promises of larger accomodations for the quickly expanding Comic-Con. The convention is under contract with the SDCC through 2012, but after that, who knows?  SD leaders are fighting to keep San Diego as the front runner for the group, as it means so much economically and culturally (Comic-Con generates $16 million in direct spending and $38 million in indirect spending for the city--meaning attendees spend $16 million on hotels, car rentals and restaurants, and a "ripple effect" of more than twice that).   Our hotel occupancy rate during the convention is the highest for the county during the entire year, at 98%! The Convention Center is working with a task force fromed by the city to research adding 200,000+ square feet to the center.  I think this would be a great move, to keep groups coming to America's Finest City, and helping our economy!
